Your screenshot stays where you edit it.
Redactly's editor is designed to do its work inside your browser. This page explains how that works and where its limits are.
-
Add an image
Paste, drop a file or choose one from your device.
-
Edit in the browser
The image is drawn on a canvas on your device and edited there.
-
Hide what's private
Blackout, pixelate or blur the details you don't want to share.
-
Mark up and prepare
Annotate, crop, watermark or place it on a background.
-
Export
Download as PNG, JPG or WebP, copy it, or share it.
What local editing means
- The image is loaded into your browser and drawn on a canvas.
- Hiding, annotating, cropping, watermarking and exporting run in the browser.
- No account is needed to use the editor.
- Only preferences are stored on your device: your theme and your watermark settings. Logos you add are not saved.
What it doesn't mean
- It doesn't guarantee every deployment of this site is free of analytics, third-party scripts or server-side features.
- Once you copy, share or upload an exported image, it goes wherever you send it.
- Blur and pixelate are visual effects, not protection for secrets. Use Blackout for those.
- Redactly can't know what is sensitive. Check the whole image before you send it.
Important security note
Local processing reduces the need to transmit screenshots, but it does not automatically guarantee that every deployment of this website is free from tracking, analytics, third-party scripts or server-side functionality.
If you deploy Redactly yourself, review the JavaScript, third-party resources, hosting configuration and analytics before making security or privacy claims.
Sensitive information
For highly sensitive information, prefer complete blackout redaction over blur. Blur is intended as a visual obscuring technique and should not be treated as cryptographic protection. Fine pixelation can also leave too much detail, so use the Coarse setting or Blackout for text.
Sharing screenshots safely
Before publishing or sending a screenshot, check the entire image for credentials, authentication tokens, API keys, private messages, email addresses, internal URLs, IP addresses and other information that may reveal more than intended. Use the export preview to look at the final result.
Browser-based processing
Modern browsers can perform many image editing operations without requiring a dedicated desktop application. Redactly uses this browser-based approach to provide a lightweight editing experience while keeping the workflow close to the user's device.
